Jeffrey MontesClass of 2010
Major: Architecture
Jeffrey Montes is a Candidate for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture with a Minor in Philosophy.
CO-OP ASSIGNMENTS: Coming off of valuable experiences in large, hierarchical firms as well as small conceptual offices, Jeffrey has grown to appreciate office environments, saying "few things are more fun than designing with someone with which there's mutual respect". The co-op experience is full of opportunities to discuss, design, and hone your areas of greatest interest. Jeffrey is especially interested in design-fabrication practices where he can exercise his building skills like his design skills. "The work I've been doing has been unpredictable and challenging. I feel like I can design anything well". His interests and experience cover various scales and disciplines of which he is constantly a student.
UNIQUE INTERESTS: Jeffrey is a unique part of his class. He is perhaps best known among his classmates for his charged personality and wide-ranging passions, especially music which is a constant source of inspiration. "Experiencing music is entering a world where rigid visual analyses don't exist. Yet, it's not a one-way road; architecture and music aren't all that different". Finding parallels between the two has been instrumental in Jeffrey's development of ideas both musical and architectural. And he wont stop there.
FUTURE PLANS AND GOALS: Like his colleagues, Jeffrey is set to study in Rome for a full semester. He is extremely optimistic about it and does not discount the possibility of a third and final co-op in Europe. He is living year to year, uncertain but excited about where his talents will take him. "Coming to Boston and studying architecture has been the single biggest door-opening of my life and I'm excited for the next step, whatever it may be."
