Evaluation and Reflection

Information for Students

In a continual effort to bring about more meaningful opportunities for students to reflect upon their Cooperative education experience, the School of Architecture Co-op Office has implemented a performance evaluation process for co-op students.

Complete the following (5) co-op requirements in order to receive a satisfactory grade.

1. Your employer MUST submit an on-line evaluation based on your work performance. Politely, check with your supervisor before you end your co-op to make sure her or she is completing the evaluation for you. If you haven’t already done so, you should schedule an exit interview with your supervisor to discuss the final evaluation before you leave. It is up to you to get feedback in person. You will have the opportunity to view the employer evaluation on-line once your supervisor submits it (and you have filled out your student self assessment on-line).

2. Please fill out the on-line student self assessment evaluation. On NEUCOOL go to the home page and click on “My Placements and Evaluations.” Click on the “Evaluations” tab. Click on the Student Self Assessment to begin. You will not be able to view the employer evaluation until you fill out your own evaluation here.

3. Please “rate the job” for other students on NEUCOOL. This really helps other students determine if the firm or organization is a right fit. It only take a few minutes to do. On NEUCOOL go to the home page and click on “My Placements and Evaluations.” All of your placements will be displayed (if you have more than one). Then click on the star (right hand corner) that says “Rate for Students.”

4. You must write at least a 2 page reflection paper based on the following. Include in your reflection paper an understanding of the architecture profession and how you plan to incorporate what you just learned in the field back into the classroom. You may want to talk about experience gained on the job, skills acquired, office environment, working as part of a team, meetings you attended, and any input you had on any design projects. Feel free to also comment on anything else you feel is important.

5. In addition to the paper, you are required to hand in 1 or 2 portfolio pages that highlight some of your work while on co-op. Examples may include but are not limited to: model/3D graphics or assignments, AutoCAD work, presentation materials, website design, and technical or construction drawings. If you worked in a non-traditional co-op setting, please e-mail me for suggestions on what to include here.
